POLICE

There are no regular police on the island apart from the "garde municipal". In urgent cases the naval police will intervene. Complaints and prosecutions are forwarded to Mon. Blache, the gendarm, or to the mayor.

POULPE

A cuttle-fish (or small octupus) which is often the victim of disappointed harpoon fishermen. As the other fish dart away so quickly the divins heroes make for this somewhat trustful and inquisitive little sea animal. The eight-armed (tentacles) little sea-creature is then dragged from the water amidst blood-curdling yells of triumph and slowly tortured to death. The dead cuttle-fish are then consigned once more to the waves because they are not to every's one palate and are rather difficult to prepare as a meal. These torturers qhould be forced to eat their victim immediately after being killed.

PORT-CROS

A neighbouring island only a couple of hundred yards distant from the Ile du Levant. Private property belonging to an old baroness under the National Trust (the property not the baroness). The following are forbidden : smoking, camping, picking flowers, bending branches, bathing nude and indulging in "nude happenings". Despite these restrictions, a walk along the well-tended paths is very worthwhile.

PORT-CROS

Nachbarinsel, von der Ile du Levant nur ein paar hundert Meter entfernt. Privateigentum einer alten Baronin, steht anter Naturschutz (nicht die Baronin). Verboten : Rauchen, Camping Blumen pflücken, Zweige kniken, Nacktbaden and FKK - Improvisationen. Ein Spaziergang auf den gepflegten Wagen lohnt sich frotzdem.

RUDOLF HOFMANN-VERLAG KG TEXT UND PHOTOS Werner d'ile 1963

Christian F8HJV, Fred F5OZK et Paul F4DVT ont activé TM74IDL sur l'ile du Levant (référence IOTA : EU-070) le mercredi 15 août 2018, sur la place Durville, dans le cadre de la célébration du 74^ème anniversaire du débarquement des troupes alliées en Provence le 15 août 1944.

L'équipe a émis et reçu sur les bandes 40 et 80 mètres en CW (Continuous Wave, Morse) et en phonie.

Polyphème

The name of the rusty wreck at the harbour mouth. It wastowed to that point from Toulon and acts as both breakwater and mooring post. It now remains a relic - the "wreck to end all wrecks...". It has been announced that a real harbour mole will shortly be built.
